White Horse

Smack, Junk, Horse, China White, Chiva, H, Tar, Fix, Speed-balling, Dope, Brown, Dog, Food, Negra, Nod, White Horse, Stuff...What a sad loss of life...some guy was apparently mainlining heroin and overdosed.

As you know, heroin is synthetic opiate and an extremely powerful narcotic that comes from the dried milk of the opium poppy. The dried milk also contains morphine and codeine. Opiates are effective painkillers. However, heroin is one of the most physically and psychologically addictive drugs known to humankind and acts as a central nervous system depressant (affects reflexes such as coughing, breathing, and heart rate).

I was the first medical responder on scene of a guy who apparently coded on heroin. The county sheriff already had the scene secured. I, and the other medical responders that soon after arrived, spent close to 45 minutes attempting to revive the individual without success. Personally, it was a sobering moment actively helping someone roughly my same age … someone with a similar number of years of life experience ... someone who sadly gave up their life while they had yet an entire potential lifetime still ahead of them.

Let It Snow...

Ahhh – there’s fresh snow in the Santa Cruz Mountains! I crossed the snow line at 1250’ft this morning. It was beautiful; being in the snow and seeing the ocean nearby

We're Not in Kansas Anymore...

Woot Woot! Let’s hear it for the Santa Cruz County Search & Rescue Team!

Missing Trio Found Unharmed

Three hikers were found unharmed early Tuesday morning after spending the night at Big Basin State Park.

The three men in their mid-20s, who were visiting the Central Coast from Kansas, went to the park late Monday afternoon with the intention of hiking to the falls. They were advised by a park ranger not to make the hike so late in the day but ignored that advice. Family members became concerned when the three failed to meet them as planned Monday evening. Members of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team found the trio about 6:30 a.m. in the park. The men were cold, wet and hungry but otherwise OK.
